Leonhard Lapin's retrospective exhibit in Turku
12.06.2009 - 13.09.2009
Estonian artist Leonhard Lapin's retrospective exhibit Signs and Void was opened at the Wäinö Aaltosen Museum.
A sampling of his works from the past 40 years are on display, and about one-third of the exhibit is made up of new works that have not even been seen in Estonia.
Lapin got his start in the 1960s, rising quickly to become a leading avant-garde artist as well as an organiser and theorist. His graphics aroused international attention, particularly his series addressing how humans and machines were growing together. Lapin has also been a prolific architect and architectural historian. He has created installations and paintings, and made sculptures as well as pieces to fit an urban setting. Lapin has also carried out Estonia's first happenings, participated in the creation of performance pieces, and staged theatre pieces.
