Kirke Kangro: I used different documentations of battles in my works. The battles are battles in themselves, not concrete, recognisable scenes of war. All of the battling men are depicted as pregnant.
- Theoretically one could make the logical assertion that the soldier or young man is the potential creator of life, the inducer of pregnancy, and therefore carries pregnancy within him, which will never be seen by anyone. In my paintings, the actual pregnancy of the men is explicated, and it shows the destruction of multiple lives with the death of every human being. Along with the men that die in battle dies a tremendous amount of potential for life.
- At the same time, actually pregnant soldiers such as these would be quite incapable of fighting, and the battles could simply not occur. If men carried and birthed children, there would be no wars.
